Owen did great at the restaurant and loved seeing his Uncle Matt. He even slept great Friday night. We noticed Saturday morning that he had a slight fever but with the teething going on we assumed it was due to that. We had breakfast as a family and then went to the hardware store, pretty much our typical Saturday morning routine.
By the time we made it but home we could tell the little guy was feeling pretty bad. We took his temp again and it was now 103 ish. We gave him some meds and laid low most of the afternoon. His fever had gone down but by the evening time he had developed a pretty bad cough. As soon as I heard him coughing I was pretty certain it was croup. He's never had it before but it's pretty distinctive. We had already decided Sunday we would most likely be visiting an urgent care doctor. Saturday night we tried putting Owen down as usual but it just wasn't happening, we all laid down together instead. After about an hour of tossing and turning, crying and coughing I decided to take him downstairs, sit in our chair and turn on Chuggington-his favorite show. His breathing had gotten worse and he seemed to be wheezing and working really hard to breath. He finally fell asleep in my arms but his little ribs were retracting so much and his heart seemed to me to be going way too fast. That's when we knew we should go ahead and head to the ER, we just couldn't stand to see him this uncomfortable. Luckily, the ER visit went smoothly- we got right in, had a good doctor and nurses, and we were only there for about 3.5 hours. The Doctor confirmed if was croup and that his heart rate and breathing definitely needed to be treated at that time. Three or so hours later, after a breathing treatment and steroids we were headed home. Poor little guy didn't sleep a wink while we were at the hospital but as soon as we got in the car he was out. He continued to sleep when we got home and we were able to get a few hours of sleep. Well, Owen and I were, poor C can't sleep after the sun comes up and was up at 9 (even though we got home at 530am) doing yard work. He even went and picked up donuts for us to have when we woke up. I can't tell you how thankful I was to have my best friend, teammate and level minded, caring husband by our side during this whole thing. I also couldn't help but think how grateful I was that we were only at the hospital for a short time with our sweet baby. Thinking about all the parents and babies that have to be in the hospital for an extended period of time just broke my heart. I definitely spent alot of time thanking the Lord and praying for the sick babies and their parents.
God is good, we found rest in him and we are thankful to see O slowly feeling better.
Sunday once Owen and I finally got up we tried to enjoy the beautiful day as a family.
We had donuts.
We went on a long bike ride.
We helped C with his Jeep and went for an evening ride.
And did a lot of this.
We had dinner and then went to bed.
This morning the little guy seems to be doing much better. He is fever free and enjoying the great weather. Amen. Hallelujah. Thank you Lord.
So.. although we had lots of "mommy and me" time no actual pictures were taken, BUT my good friend just sent me this little series of pictures and they just made my Momma heart so happy. After seeing my baby sick, this is just what I needed. Thanks Monica!!
these were taken a few months ago but I love seeing his happy face and bright eyes today.
